South Devon Rugby – Quarter Finals against Kingsbridge
The year 11 rugby team played Kingsbridge in the Quarter Finals of the South Devon Rugby competition. In a highly physical and competitive game against a strong Kingsbridge team; who played to their strength of using the power of their forwards to crash their way through the middle for 70 minutes, our team were outstanding, hitting tackle after tackle after tackle.
At half time the score was 5-5 with our try scored by Josh Hunt in the corner from some good quick hands by the backs. In the second half Kingsbridge scored early to take a 10-5 lead despite some great tackles and resistance by the Teignmouth boys.
An intelligent kick over the Kingsbridge defence by Charlie Muir, which he was able to chase onto and ground in the try area, once again saw the scores level. Unfortunately, with the game looking like it could finish as a draw the extremely muddy pitch led to a slip which allowed Kingsbridge to capitalise and score the winning try.
Every single one of the 16 lads who played were outstanding and a credit to themselves and the school. The 2 men of the match were Finlay Pitman and Samuel Ridgway who made numerous outstanding tackles and were involved in everything that happened on the pitch. A special mention also goes to Gabriel Bircham who captained the team magnificently!
