Teignmouth Scholar Pathway

At Teignmouth Community school, selected students are invited to join in with the Teignmouth Scholars Programme, which runs throughout Year 9-13. Students enter the programme in Year 9, and are selected based on their attainment and attitude to learning so far in their school journey. We look to identify students who embody our school values of, work hard, join in and be kind.

Selected students Join in with an aspirational pathway in addition to their subject curriculum, which exposes them to a vast amount of enrichment opportunities designed to support them in setting goals and reaching them.

All students in the programme begin the pathway with a ‘Futures meeting’ and then a programme of opportunities is personalised around their desired experiences and aspirations.

Teignmouth Scholar opportunities:

• Attend workshops designed to extend cognitive ability
• Gain insight into aspirational careers
• Attend a University taster day
• Attend a UCAS and apprenticeship fair
• Gain further insight into the pathways available at Post 16 and beyond
• Listen to aspirational guest speakers
• Develop confidence in public speaking and debating
• Attend a residential trip
• Attend Post 16 lessons
• Attend University subject masterclasses
• Receive one on one support with UCAS and employment applications
• Parent and carer events designed to help support our Teignmouth Scholars achieve their goals

Year 9 Programme 2025

 

Date	Event	About
12th and 13th February	Futures meetings	1 on 1 meetings with school leaders to discuss aspirations and interests. Students are given an individual time slot so we can get to know the cohort.
24th February & 4th March	Problem solving and deep thinking workshop	A workshop designed to solve challenges and work together for the first time!
19th March	Leadership	A focus on leadership skills in a practical and theory setting led by the Army.
30th April	Who’s the Judge	A Law based workshop which will encourage critical thinking and group discussion.
26th June	Plymouth University trip	A day to experience a University campus and meet student ambassadors, giving an insight into life and progression routes to University.
21st-22nd July	London residential	A one night residential to London. The cohort will visit the Science and Natural History Museum, along with experiencing the London Eye, and a Thames cruise. There will also be time to explore the city focused around Covent Garden.
