At TCS, psychological skills and concepts are taught using an applied approach. Students are taught through a range of teaching and learning strategies which encourage them to explore psychological material and apply their knowledge to issues relevant in contemporary society such as gender, aggression, consumer behaviour, stress and addiction.
Studying psychology will give students insight and understanding of the main theories within psychology which students will be encouraged to explore and evaluate. This will then be applied to novel situations. Students will learn investigation skills, and be able to plan a research study exploring a current psychological topic. Students will then be able to apply their skills in conducting their research and be able to analyse findings and reflect on the process.
Through the study of psychology, we aim to:
- Promote opportunities to ‘think like a psychologist’ by supporting students in understanding the research process and carrying out their own practical investigation
- Develop student’s subject knowledge so they are able to understand human behaviour using different explanations
- Present opportunities to deepen their conceptual understanding through application to novel scenarios
- Expand literacy, enabling students to use psychological terminology with confidence
Our Curriculum Road Maps offer a brief visual guide to our curriculum showing the learning sequence that students will follow in each year group.
