Yesterday our Year 10 students attended a careers ‘speed networking’ event where they met with 22 professionals to discuss various careers.
We were fortunate enough to welcome people from a variety of industries including; healthcare, engineering, law, armed forces, property, marketing, and many more. The event allowed small groups of students to spend five minutes with each visitor asking questions about their current job, but also their career journey which gave students a real insight into the world of work and the depth of opportunities available.
The employers were able to demonstrate the importance of English and Maths in their every day working life. Matt Slader from MJS Planning & Design explained how in his role he needed to use the persuasive writing skills he had learnt in English lessons when writing planning applications.
Joanne Hussain, Careers Leader said “The students came away feeling very positive about the whole experience and said that it had proved very interesting, with many commenting that their minds had been opened to careers and job sectors they had never before considered”.
We would like to thank all of our guests for giving up their time so generously to give this opportunity to our students.
