This Wednesday, our school was treated to a visit from William Hussey, author of over a dozen novels for young adults and grown-ups, that include horror, supernatural thrillers, whodunnits and rom-coms.
The day kicked off with the whole of year 7 in the auditorium for a ‘Gothic masterclass.’ William captivated his young audience with a dramatic reading from one of his books, followed by a history of the horror genre, enhanced by appropriately grotesque images. Students were very keen to participate in the Dracula versus Van Helsing confrontation at the end, complete with cloaks, wigs and stake. Fortunately, Van Helsing won!
Selected students from years 7, 8 and 9 then participated in an exciting ‘What If?’ interactive writing workshop, where each class collaborated on character development and plot to create a joint story. William gave them plenty of inside tips to help them improve their own writing. We look forward to seeing them apply their new-found knowledge to their next English task.
